From my bedroom, where I do most of my writing, I can hear taps over the loudspeakers at Ft. Mead.

I played it at over 100 funerals while in high school ROTC.

Taps means, in the language of bugle calls, “work is over, time to sleep”.  That’s why it’s played at the end of an administrative day (2300 hrs).  That’s also why it’s played at funerals.

This has been a week marked by the death of a close friend, and a funeral I couldn’t attend.  I would like to think that the song is for him tonight.
